Hello! Carlo and I are back from our honeymoon in Fiji and want to say a big thank you to A Better Deal Tuxedo! The groomsmen looked so amazing (thank you for pre-tying their neckties!!) and the colors were absolutely perfect!!!!I remember I was hesitant about the lighter grey suit, and the darker tie color, but it was all meant to be. During the wedding, I kept htinking to myself that our bridal party looks SO GOOD! Thank you SO much for all of your time and efforts in helping me put together my vision for the wedding. the weather was cold and rainy that day and nothing went according to the carefuly hatched plans we worked on for so many months, but it was absolutely perfect and the way it should have been. Funny how life always seems to unfold that way. I wish you the best continued success.

I could understand a few of the low reviews - but seriously: are you expecting a "Say Yes to Dress/Kleinfeld" experience when it comes to finding a tuxedo? Did you want consultants dressed in black in a fancy shop to pop champagne when you find THE tux? Well if you do, then don't go here.
But if you want awesome customer service, a great selection of stylish suits and tuxedos - then please visit A Better Deal Tuxedos and see Janet and Jerry. What I LOVE about ABDT is that their ENTIRE inventory is on site. FACT: If you go to Friar Tux or Men's Warehouse or another "chain" shop - you walk into a show room. You talk with a "sales rep" who doesn't really care about the style and fashion of your wedding. You pick suits and accessories from a book. AND if you wanted to try on the actual suit you want to wear on your wedding day... you CAN'T, until you actually pick it up 2 days before your wedding. UM. NO THANK YOU.
Our appointment with Janet and Jerry lasted 2.5 hours. (haha! crazy, i know! But my fiance has a particular vision for his wedding day style) Anyway - a long appointment, but not ONCE did we feel rushed. Jerry took his time to measure and show us the different suits they had in stock. Janet was so gracious (and honest) to show us what looks nice and what's hot and what's not. The BEST thing about it was - my fiance was able to try on the EXACT suit he was going to wear on our wedding day - from head to toe! Seeing him almost brought me to tears!
We have 8 groomsmen and I know they will be taken care of. And the day they pick up their tuxedos - if something is missing, or if some don't fit - they can exchange it or do alterations...on the spot...in the store!
....OH! And who wouldn't want to go where Philip Rivers shops?? YUP. He bought his tuxedo here in January. Enough said.
Our initial consultation gets 5 stars. And I'm hoping it will be the same review after our wedding day.

As the Groom, I wanted to have my own tux and "A Better Deal Tuxedos" delivered. I looked all through San Diego and no could offer or compare to the service, quality and staff of "A Better Deal Tuxedos".
This is one of the few companies that are true to there names. So, if you want to purchase or rent, I would highly recommend them.
P.S. At first I planned on buying my tie elsewhere, but no one could offer the Black on Black tie A Better Deal had. SO, I bought the tie from them as well.

My husband and I worked with Janet at A Better Deal for our August 2008 wedding. We purchased a tuxedo for him there, and his father and best man rented their tuxes there.
Before we visited ABD, we had been to Nordstrom to price out tuxedos for my husband. We were a bit deflated by the prices we were quoted and thought we might have to rent for my husband. So, we visited ABD upon the recommendation of my gown shop, Chez Bride Moderne.
We made an appointment over the phone for a late afternoon visit. We were greeted and served by Janet, one of the owners there. I provided her a picture of the look I was hoping to achieve. We discussed rental options, but Janet made it clear that a slim, tailored look (that was very important to me) was not going to be possible with a rental. She then quoted us how much it would be to purchase a tuxedo from her and we were just floored - her price was less than half of what Nordstrom offered. She gave us the name of her preferred tailor, who would be able to tailor the tux to our liking.
My husband and I both were impressed and drawn in by Janet's enthusiasm and personal approach. She was simply a delight to work with.
I should note that this is a very busy shop. Over the course of half-a-dozen various visits there, you have to work with the staff a bit to get the kind of personalized attention that we liked so much. Something that worked well for us was to come at the end of the day during their last half hour of business. Since my husband and I work all day, that was the only time that we were available to come to the shop anyways, so it worked well for us.
We also made arrangements for my husband's father and best man to rent tuxedos there. We followed Janet's instructions as to when she needed measurements by, and for the plan to pick up and drop off the rentals. His dad had some trouble with a proper fit at his daughter's wedding earlier in the summer, and he reported that he was very happy with the fit that Janet achieved for him. The men reported no problems with picking their tuxes up, and in fact drove down to the shop (which happened to be very near our venue) to have Janet's expert hand tie their bow-ties the day of the wedding. They looked GREAT.
Oh, and my husband looked like a million bucks. Janet's recommended tailor (Q. Ta in Pacific Beach) did a fantastic job. What is perhaps more important than my satisfaction was that my husband loved the way he looked in the ensemble Janet provided and enjoyed working with her every step of the way. This was simply a resounding success. Thank you, Janet!

Very good small business. I used them for my wedding and I was impressed. They can get busy but if you plan and take your time, they can be a pleasure to work with.
They made no visible mistakes with any of my 8 or 9 rentals. On time and no last minute surprises. My husband looked GREAT (he always does).
Wish there were more "Better Deals" in San Diego.

The man needed to rent a tux for a fancy pants wedding in La Jolla. He told them the look he wanted to portray, and they nailed it. The entire night he received compliments on his tux, and the bride was gushing over how he went the extra mile and wore a tux to make her day special. He looked so handsome *sigh*
There was a small issue with the pants being damaged at the bottom when he returned them, however they removed the hem and said not to worry about it that it was fixable without charging him extra.
Overall, impeccable service and reasonably priced tuxedo rental. Glad we found this business on yelp!

She helped get our colors and style coordinated for all of the wedding party. You simply cannot compare her expertise and attention to detail. Do yourself a favor and go here and not some big chain store!

I stopped by Men's Wearhouse on New Year's Eve for a tux fitting and the people there treated us poorly. I was so frustrated and disappointed, I asked my fiance to call our wedding coordinator for a recommendation. She sent us to ABD. Jerry greeted us warmly and Janet immediately gave me a Tuxedo101 lesson. I learned a ton! I also learned that Men's Wearhouse measured my pants too low and I would have looked like a ganster walking down the isle.
After I tried on a few tuxes, I reserved tuxes for me and my guys immediately. That was easy!

These guys are GREAT! Best place in the area to rent a tux or suit for whatever occasion you might find yourself in -- very personal service, great selection, and lower prices than at the mall chains. I rented both a tux and a suit for a trip I made a couple of months ago to Washington DC where I needed both (the moths ate mine years ago). Got measured quickly, then tried out a few options. Put down my deposit and I was good to go. I was so happy with the price, service, and quality that I just brought my son there yesterday to get set for his high school prom. No more malls for us!

After visiting several skanky tux shops, all of which you could not try anything on but merely choose from a photo in a catalog, we were recommended to A Better Deal by our Event Coordinator-on our first visit, we were warmly welcomed by Janet. She knows her stuff, and we found the pricing very affordable. What sealed the deal for me was the fact that you could try everything on, and everything is THERE-with other mass retailers, if they screw up your order, you are well...screwed. They don't carry their inventory in the store; however A Better Deal does. This gave me peace of mind knowing that a sizing error could be fixed within minutes instead of days. Everything was flawless and the groomsmen looked fantastic. Yes, they have dogs. Yes, it is a small shop. San Diego is a dog city, and some people can hang with it and some can't. If I had my own shop, I would bring my dog every single day. If this bothers you, I would recommend going elsewhere. For us, it was a refreshing, warm and great experience. Good people, good service. No issues at all. Tuxedos were perfect.
